Wat Saket Ratchaworamahawihan
TEMPLE OF THE GOLDEN MOUNT BANGKOK

This gilded, metal cast Buddha image is 5 meters tall and is measured 3.75 meters long from the left knee to the right knee. The enormous size gives it the name ‘Luang Pho Toa.’ It is said that King Chulalongkorn had the image enshrined at Wat Srakesa inside a wooden viharn, the base of which was built from bricks and cements and was measured 3 meters in height.

Luang Pho Toa is facing Mahanak Canal, and its back is facing the Golden Mount. People, especially those living in the neighborhoods, always come to pay respect to the Buddha image as they believe, “Luang Pho Toa watches over them, and blesses them with happiness and success.” During the terms of Supreme Patriarch Yoo Yanothaya Mahathera, at that time Somdej Praputthakosajarn, the Supreme Patriarch decided to have Luang Pho Toa moved to
enshrine in a newly-built viharn at the bottom
of the Golden Mount on the north side.
