Wat Saket Ratchaworamahawihan
TEMPLE OF THE GOLDEN MOUNT BANGKOK

This gilded, limestone molded Buddha image in the attitude of subduing mara is
measured 2 meters long from the left knee to the right knee. It is assumed that the art-work was of those craftsmen in the early Rattanakosin period. The image has been standing there with the Golden Mount from the beginning. It was built, as widely known, for members of the royal family and general Buddhists who do not manage to get to the top of the Golden Mount to pay respect to the pagoda. People, especially those in the neighboring area, with much veneration, always come to pay homage to the Buddha image. It is generally called, “Luang Pho Dam” since it was once covered with lacquer, no gilding on the surface and once enshrined inside a small viharn. Later in 1969, a viharn of modern Thai architecture was constructed to house the image.
